Sustaining Hawke's Bay Trust starts this year's Speakers on Sustainability Series on Monday evening 9 June 2008 with Guy Salmon whose talk is titled: "Decision-Making for Sustainability - Can We Do It Better?"
Guy Salmon is executive director of the Ecologic Foundation, an independent, non-profit think-tank whose mission is to provide leadership in sustainable development through science, reason and dialogue.
"This topic is of particular interest to us here in Hawke's Bay as we start our journey towards a sustainable region" said Kevin Trerise, Chairman of Sustaining Hawke's Bay Trust. "We are very fortunate to have Guy talk, as later in the week he will be addressing the Environmental Defence Society conference which has attracted leading speakers from around the world".
Over the last five years, Guy has been leading a small international team on a research project funded by the Foundation on Research Science and Technology (FRST), comparing sustainability decision-making in New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden and Finland. This work focuses on the collaborative style of decision-making used in the Nordic countries, and whether it can be adapted in New Zealand.
With sustainability and environmental matters continuing to be widely discussed and debated in New Zealand and locally it is important that we have an understanding of the importance, the interrelatedness and the implications of these matters for our region.
The talk which starts at 7.00 pm at the Havelock North Community Centre this Monday evening 9 June 2008 is followed by a light supper which provides an opportunity for discussion and community building.
There is a small cost of $10.00 per person or $5 for SHBT members.
