Events

We run a wide variety of events and courses to raise awareness of sustainability issues and to inspire you to take action.

Speaker Series
The ‘Speakers on Sustainability’ Series is our flagship programme. A series of Monday evening presentations throughout winter and spring, this is a great chance to hear international, national and local authorities speak on a variety of 'big picture' sustainability issues. Venue: Havelock North Community Centre.

Environmental Film Festival
The Reel Earth Aotearoa Environmental Film Festival is a nationwide event which brings environmental films to the community and motivates local producers to create films about current environmental issues. The festival comprises a mix of short and feature films covering a wide range of topics, and this year will also feature special screenings for schools. August

Permaculture Groups
There are currently two Permaculture Groups – Hawke's Bay group meets in Havelock North and Central Hawke's Bay group meets in Waipawa/Waipukurau. Both meet for presentations, discussions, films, plant & produce swaps and working bees.

Each tour visits three or four properties where you can see examples of alternative building techniques such as earthbrick and strawbale, energy efficiency such as passive solar design, and use of technology such as wind and solar power.
