Your support needed for continued funding for Enviroschools programme in Hawke's Bay
Hawke's Bay Regional Council voted last week to decline ongoing financial support to the Enviro Schools programme in Hawke's Bay. The Enviro Schools programme is a NZ wide programme that aims to develop a generation of innovative and motivated young people to instinctively think and act sustainably.
To quote Councillor Liz Remmerswal - (Hastings)
"Council seems to have forgotten that is it expected to be proactive in sustaining a healthy environment, no matter what cutbacks central government may make"
"Now, more than ever, young people need the skills to cope as they struggle to deal with the environmental problems that we are handing down to them," she says.
The call to action for all parents, children and teachers of the schools participating and those that were hoping to be able to join the programme in the future is to make a simple submission to the Hawke's Bay Regional Council Annual Plan process. The draft of the Annual Plan will be available on the 3rd April with submissions to the Annual Plan closing on 10th May 2010.
Visit Hawke's Bay Regional Council website for details on the Annual Plan process click here
A simple submission template will be posted on our website shortly after the 3rd April which you will be able to use to help you with the submission process.
